1984 album 'Animalize' from KISS turns 39 today!

KISS Animalize

On this day (September 13th) in 1984 KISS released their platinum selling album 'Animalize'.

It was a continuation of the commercial revival that started with 'Lick It Up' and which gave the band a new lease on life after having removed their trademark make-up.

'Animalize' received platinum status in the U.S. by RIAA certification in December of 1984 (1,000,000 copies sold), propelled by the hit single "Heaven's On Fire".

The album marked the first and only appearance by lead guitarist Mark St. John, who replaced Vinnie Vincent in April 1984. Mark St. John had to leave Kiss during the subsequent tour, after he was diagnosed with Reiter Syndrome. In November 1984 he was out of the band, replaced by Bruce Kulick who would remain with them until the reunion of the classic line-up in  1996.
